To me, Youth is the time of life when one is young, especially the period between childhood and maturity, while to the United Nation (UN) it means those persons between the ages of 15 and 24 years are regarded to be youth. The UN based it deposition on the fact that this category of people are in the ages of transition from the dependence of childhood to adulthood’s independence.
At this period of time, the people between this kind of age are believed to be living in a state of contributing to the growth and development of their Nations, such people are in particular in relation to education and employment in which they play the most important role in nation building of their given and prospective Country.
Perhaps, it is to be noted that the definition of youth changes with circumstances, especially with the changes in demographic, financial, economic and socio-cultural settings. However, the definition that uses 15-24 age cohort as youth fairly serves its statistical purposes for assessing the needs of the young and providing guidelines for youth development.
Youths play an important role in progress and development of our respective nations as they constitute a majority portion of the total population of the country. The efforts of youth can help in rapid growth and development of our nation. Youth are the building blocks in the economical and social development of a nation.
Well educated and trained youths contribute their skills in almost every sector in a developing economy. They give their services, such as: engineers, doctors, administrators, teachers, lecturers, and in several other capacities.
The energy level and confidence of youths make them take risks and achieve new heights in their respective domains. Youths in a nation, create a productive and efficient environment conducive to and social progress of the nation.
Nation building on the other hand refers to the process of engaging all citizens in the development of the nation. It entails the process of constructing or structuring a national identity using the power of the state. This power of the state are the youths who are involved in social harmony, infrastructure development and economic growth of the nation.
Nation-building can involve the use of propaganda or major infrastructure development to foster social harmony and economic growth. Nation growth development will improve the lives of citizens with the growing economy.
The future as well as the present of our nation is in the hands of its youth. So, the contribution of youth is important in structuring the nation.
The youth has been and continuing to be playing an important role in progress and development of our great Nation. They have contributed to the development and progress of our Nation in many areas of their respective professions as mentioned above such as: engineers, doctors, administrators, teachers, lawyers entrepreneurs, lecturers, and in several other capacities.
The youths have been the rational box behind the fastest growing economy country. This development will not have been achieved without the contribution of the youth in making their nation stand unique among all.
